Motor Voltage and Frequency for Export Fan Orders

An industrial fan should not be ordered with only a motor power value. Electrical supply affects motor design, speed, current, controls, and the fan operating point, especially when the destination uses a different frequency.

Provide the complete power supply

  • Nominal voltage and acceptable variation
  • Frequency, usually stated in hertz
  • Single-phase or three-phase supply
  • Required motor power and speed
  • Starting method, controls, or variable-frequency drive

Check more than voltage

Confirm motor efficiency class, insulation class, enclosure or IP protection, ambient temperature, altitude, duty cycle, terminal arrangement, and any project-specific certification requirement.

Frequency can change fan performance

A different supply frequency may change motor speed and therefore airflow, pressure, and absorbed power. Do not assume that a motor marked for one voltage-frequency combination can be used unchanged at another. The supplier should confirm both the motor and fan performance for the destination supply.
