Noise and vibration are related but not identical. A fan can be mechanically smooth yet still generate significant airflow noise, while an installation problem can transmit vibration even when the fan was balanced at the factory.
Identify the source
Aerodynamic noise may come from high velocity, turbulence, inlet restriction, poor system matching, dampers, or discharge conditions. Mechanical vibration may involve imbalance, misalignment, bearings, belts, looseness, resonance, or a weak foundation.
Reduce problems before ordering
- Select near a suitable and efficient operating range
- Provide straight, unobstructed inlet conditions where practical
- Confirm foundation, isolation, and flexible connections
- Allow access for cleaning and balance inspection
- State the required sound criterion and measurement location
Commission the complete installation
Check rotation, current, fasteners, belt condition, bearing behavior, vibration, and unusual sound after installation. A silencer or isolator should be selected for the actual frequency range and transmission path, not added blindly.
