Smoke Exhaust Fan Project Inputs

Smoke exhaust fans are selected as part of a complete smoke-control strategy. The project specification, local requirements, duct system, dampers, controls, power supply, and emergency operating condition must be reviewed together.

Separate normal and emergency operation

Some systems use one fan for daily ventilation and emergency smoke extraction. Record both operating points, including airflow, pressure, motor speed, and control sequence.

Confirm the emergency condition

  • Required airflow and system pressure
  • Smoke temperature and operating duration
  • Indoor, outdoor, roof, or equipment-room location
  • Voltage, frequency, phase, controls, and standby power
  • Required certificates and project documentation

Coordinate the complete air path

Fan performance must be compatible with smoke shafts, ducts, dampers, louvers, terminals, and replacement-air provisions. Final approval should follow the project fire and mechanical design requirements.
